Before & After: Vaughn Rod Breakdown Machine

Wire & Plastic Machinery received an order for a fully reconditioned Vaughn 10 Die Rod Breakdown Machine with a 30" Syncro DFH Spooler. As you can see, the rod machine was in need of some major work and our engineers were able to restore it to like new condition with all new electrics.

Our rebuilding processes included the following steps:

Vaughn 10 Die Rod Breakdown Machine:
Disassembled, steam cleaned, primed and painted to customer specification
Rotated all worm gears that drive each drawing capstan
Installed New bearings throughout the machine
New bearings in the slide door of the pullout capstan were installed
Installed New heat exchanger
New oil circulation pump was installed
New wire guide arm was installed
New brake pedal was installed

30” Syncro DFH Spooler:
Disassembled, steam cleaned, primed and painted to customer specification
New bearings installed throughout
Traverse was rebuilt
New hydraulic cylinder was installed on traverse
New shaft assembly
New expanding rings on shaft were installed to suit customer reel
New 30 HP AC Vector Motor was installed
New hydraulic and air lines were installed

Electrical:
New NEMA rated enclosure with 400 HP SSD/parker Drive
All new wiring and machine logic
Rebuild existing  400 HP DC Motor
New 30 HP SSD/Parker Vector drive for spooler
New operator console for line controls

Just Shipped: Reconditioned Davis-Standard Rubber Extruder

Wire & Plastic Machinery received an order for a fully reconditioned Davis-Standard 6" Thermatic III Rubber Extruder from one of our North American clients. Not only did the project call for a complete rebuild of the extruder, but also modification of the frame from 20:1 L/D to 15:1 L/D. As you can see, the extruder was in rough shape prior to sale and our engineers were able to restore the machine to like new condition.

The mechanical rebuilding process involved the following steps:
1. The extruder was completely dissasembled and steam cleaned
2. The gear box was inspected for wear and concentricity and rebuilt
3. All shaft bearings were replaced
5. The main bull gear was inspected and spun 180 degrees
6. A new 6" 15:1 extruder barrel with a bimetallic liner was sourced and installed
7. The head clamp was replaced
8. The powered strip roller feed section was rebuilt and all bearings and rollers replaced
9. New cast aluminum heaters were installed
10. The existing coolant tank was replaced with a new closed loop high effeciency cooling system
11. The barrel cooling heat exchanger system was replaced
12. All plumbing and circulation pumps were replaced with solenoids for all 3 barrel heater zones
13. A new 200 HP AC Vector Motor was installed 
14. Installed cooling lines for the crosshead body/die from the existing water cooling systems
15. Provided plugs for power and thermocouples for the barrel zones, flange, crosshead, and die sections.

Wire Southeast Asia 2011 Show Report

Wire & Plastic Machinery Corp. was an exhibitor at this year's Wire Southeast Asia. The show is regarded as Asia's largest procurement ground for the latest manufacturing equipment and technologies for the wire and cable industry.

It was a pleasant surprise to see that attendance was up from the last staging of Wire Southeast Asia. We had had more visitors to our booth this time and had meaningful discussions with customers that have capital projects in the pipeline. There was considerable interest in our offerings as more customers are giving serious consideration to the option of purchasing high quality second-hand equipment. Not only did we see potential customers from the ASEAN region, there were also quite a few visitors from India and the Middle East. Despite soft economic conditions, we hope to see some orders materialize from this region over the next few months as this part of the world is poised to grow at a faster rate than the developed world economies. Overall, we were pleased with our participation as we made several new contacts and picked up another agent for the region.

We used our booth space to hold sales meetings and to display photo's of inventory highlights. The machines that generated the most interest amongst visitors were:

Wire Russia 2011 Show Report

Wire & Plastic Machinery is an active participant in international trade shows. With key customer accounts in Russia and the CIS countries - exhibiting at Wire Russia in Moscow was important. We had some very interesting meetings and came away with many qualified leads. The attendance at the show was down from the last show but most of the visitors to our booth were decision makers.

Our booth showcased pictures of latest second hand wire and cable equipment acquisitions. The following machines generated the most interest amongst visitors:

Booth visitors were also given a demonstration of the search feature on our new interactive website. The show was 4 days long and for the most part we had a constant stream of visitors except for the last day. Oleg Salnikov assisted with Russian translations – his help was invaluable!
